Urgent appointments

To request an urgent appointment for today or tomorrow (Monday to Friday) during opening times:

Routine appointments

To request a routine appointment in advance during opening times:

Your appointment

However you choose to contact us, we may offer you a consultation:

  • by phone
  • face to face at the surgery
  • on a video call
  • by text or email

Appointments by phone, video call or by text or email can be more flexible and often means you get help sooner.

Cancelling or changing an appointment

To cancel your appointment:

Text reminders

We provide appointment reminders and invites for services via text message. If you have given us your mobile phone number, you will automatically receive these messages. If we don’t have a record of your mobile phone number, please let the receptionist know at the time of booking an appointment, and we will update our records to ensure that you can receive these messages in future. If you would prefer not to receive these messages, please let the practice know.

If you need help when we are closed

When Price’s Mill Surgery is closed, you can contact the out of hours service by phoning 111. The out of hours service deals with urgent medical problems when the surgery is closed. Your needs will be assessed by specially trained staff and advice offered or arrangements made for you to speak to or see a doctor. This is an urgent care service and should be used only when you genuinely cannot wait until the surgery re opens. The service should not be used for test results, routine matters, prescription requests or for medical emergencies.

NHS 111 online is for people aged 5 and over. Call 111 if you need help for a child under 5.

Call 999 in a medical or mental health emergency. This is when someone is seriously ill or injured and their life is at risk.

If you need help with your appointment

Please tell us:

  • if there’s a specific doctor, nurse or other health professional you would prefer to respond
  • if you would prefer to consult with the doctor or nurse by phone, face to face, by video call or by text or email
  • if you need an interpreter
  • if you have any other access or communication needs

Home visits

Home visits are intended only for the very ill or housebound. Visits are made after morning surgery after midday. Doctors are unable to visit before this time as they are consulting in the surgery. A visit from our living well nurse, Jude may be an outcome of your request.

To enable the doctors to plan their calls, it would be appreciated if, where possible, requests are made as soon as possible during the working day. This is to ensure that if a very ill patient requires hospital admission, this can be organised as early in the day as possible. This will allow the hospital to carry out any necessary tests or investigations as quickly as possible. The assistance of carers in helping us with this is much appreciated.

Should you require a home visit, please use the Anima service giving as much information as possible to allow the doctor to assess the urgency.

Though it may be appropriate to see patients in their own home, it is often better for you to be seen at the surgery, and the duty doctor may decide that this is the best course of action.

Medical and nursing training

Price’s Mill Surgery supports doctors in training (previously called junior doctors) and occasionally has medical students, student and community nurses. Experience of real life situations are an important part of training and learning. On occasions, you may be asked if you are willing for a trainee to be present during the consultation with your doctor or nurse. You are quite entitled to refuse this and this will not affect the service you receive in any way. If you are, your cooperation is very much appreciated.
